Croquet world champions in the making

Who said Croquet is an old persons’ game? During June and July our junior members proved otherwise.

On Saturday, 29th June at Colchester our youngest member Henry won the Golf Croquet ‘C’ level series (all ages) and thus qualified for the National Finals to be held on 21st and 22nd September at Cheltenham. Well done – we at Ipswich Croquet Club are rooting for you.

Eden and Albie were both selected to represent England in the Under 21 Golf Croquet World Championship 2019 which took place on Wednesday, 24th July at Nottingham – a great achievement in itself and an opportunity to play against the best juniors in the world.

Unfortunately Eden came up against the New Zealander Logan McCorkindale who went on to come a close second in the Plate.

Albie excelled by reaching the final sixteen only to be beaten by James Galpin. James went on to an enthralling and fiercely contested final against Edmund Fordyce who won with a score of 4/7, 5/7, 7/5, 7/5, 7/5. Albie then played in the quarter finals of the Bowl

Well done and many congratulations to all three. I for one will certainly need a pocket full of Bisques if I meet any of them on our home turf!
